The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) TOMORROW! The national test will consist of two portions, testing WEA and EAS capabilities. Both tests are scheduled to begin at approximately 2:20pm ET on Wednesday, October 4.
The WEA portion of the test will be directed to ALL consumer cell phones. The test message will display in either English or in Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless handset. The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions.
*** PLEASE NOTE ***
Experts advise people at risk for domestic violence who keep a hidden safety phone at home to switch that phone OFF during FEMA's October 4, 2023, nationwide test of the National Emergency Alert system so the phone's existence is not inadvertently revealed to an abuser.

On National Custodian Appreciation Day, we just want to let the custodial team at MLES know how much we appreciate what they do. Without their work, our students wouldn’t have a safe and clean school in which to learn.

DHEC will be providing flu shots to students at MLES on Wednesday, October 18th. If you are interested in having your child receive a flu shot at school on this date, there are two options to register them. You can either follow the directions in this flyer (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hxI5I8oNDauCFPmgef-FNsxv9eOBwmGQ/view) or you can click on the link below and enter the validation code for our school (10404037).

Everybody loves recess! (Even Mr. Christopher!)

Fall Picture Day is this Thursday, September 14th! Say Cheese!
Also, as a reminder, there is no need to order pictures ahead of time. A few weeks after picture day, a packet of pictures will be sent home with each student and families will be able to choose to purchase pictures then.

Mark your calendars! Meet the Teacher Night is August 1st from 4:30-6:30.

Registration will be held on Tuesday, July 18th from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm in the cafeteria. You can pay fees, update paperwork, and learn who your child’s teacher will be. The Materials/Instructional Fee is $20 and the Technology Fee for your student’s Chromebook is $25 (fees will be adjusted for families who qualify SNAP or TANF). Information tables will be set-up for the PTO, the Good News Club, the YMCA, and other after-school opportunities. Please enter through the main front doors.

Letters were sent out to families recently with details about Registration Day on July 18th (from 10:00-5:30) as well as other important information for the start of the new school year. A digital copy of the letter is posted on the school webpage.
PLEASE NOTE (New for Registration this year):
All families will be required to submit two updated proofs of residence at Registration. Please have with you two valid, current (within the past 30 days) proofs of residence (ex. gas, electric, or water bill; rental/lease agreement or mortgage/property tax statement that indicates service address). This will be required to find out your child’s teacher.
Today is designated as Administrative Professionals Day and we want to give a shout out to the BEST office staff anywhere! Ms. Mullinax, Ms. Heiferman, and Nurse Kristi are the glue that holds our school together. We love them so much!!

We are so thankful for our School Bus Drivers. We appreciate everything you do to make sure our students make it to and from school safe and on time !
